The Host
Aliza Robison
My name is Aliza Robison and I have been an adjunct professor at LCC for 14 years. I teach sociology and anthropology classes and I love engaging students in class discussions. It was during one of these discussions—in a particularly insightful and curious class—that the idea for this podcast was born.
Students featured on this podcast come from one of three courses offered at LCC: Introduction to Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, and Food, Culture and the Environment. In these courses, we explore different perspectives of the world—sometimes examining the symbolic meanings behind individuals’ interactions, and other times considering how individual behavior is shaped by larger social, cultural, and ecological systems.
In-person sociology and anthropology classes are unique spaces where students can share their stories and ideas while recognizing their connections to the broader social world.
Students in these classes, and those who participate in this podcast, practice perspective-taking, communicating abstract ideas orally, and listening to understand others. The skills they develop can be applied across their academic, professional, familial, and civic lives.
